Sirkka Tshiningayamwe completed her doctoral studies at Rhodes University, in the Environmental Learning and Research Center in 2016. She is currently a Post-Doctoral researcher in the Environmental Learning and Research Center exploring how Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) can be scaled up in teacher education in Southern Africa. Her PhD research explored capabilities and teacher agency in Science and biodiversity teacher Professional Learning Communities (PLCs). Sirkka used Fundisa for Change as a case study for her research. While pursuing her Postdoctoral research, Sirkka is also helping with the coordination of the Fundisa for Change program in 2016. Sirkka has presented her research at several conferences. Among those is the Education Association of South Africa (EASA), the South African Education Research Association (SAERA) conference, the Environmental Education Association of Southern Africa (EEASA) conference and at the Rhodes University postgraduate conferences. Sirkka has published an academic article for the 2016 special edition of the Southern African journal of Environmental Education. She has also contributed two chapters to the Schooling for Sustainable Development in Africa book.
