The Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development
Agenda 2030 is a global agenda for people, planet and prosperity. Our world faces great global challenges that call for profound social change for sustainable development – bold and transformative steps are needed. The UN has decided on 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) and 169 targets, which demonstrate the scale and ambition of the new Agenda. The goals are integrated to address all dimensions of sustainability: the economic, social, cultural, and ecological dimensions.
SWEDESD works primarily towards Goal 4: Quality Education, and Target 4.7: Education for sustainable development and global citizenship.
SDG 4.7 specifically addresses that until 2030, all learners should have acquired the knowledge and skills needed to promote and enact sustainable development. The UN also pinpoints Quality Education as one of the main drivers for reaching the Agenda as a whole.
