2021-05-04

UNESCO World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development  will be held as an online event on 17-19 May 2021. One objective is to enhance the awareness about sustainability issues and the role of education in tackling global challenges. SWEDESD is part of the Swedish delegation.

UNESCO World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development was supposed to be held in Berlin in June 2020 but got cancelled due to the ongoing corona pandemic. In the end of last year, UNESCO presented a roadmap for a new 10-year framework for Education for Sustainable Development, building on the UN Decade on ESD (2005-2014) and the Global Action Programme on ESD (2015-2019) in a series of webinars.

The upcoming online world conference aims at creating momentum for the new framework and to enhance the awareness about education for sustainable development.

About 2 500 actors from all over the world are expected to participate, including policy-makers, ESD practitioners, NGO’s, members of the development community and private sector.

SWEDESD is part of the Swedish delegation, chaired by Matilda Ernkrans, Minister for Higher Education and Research.

The Swedish delegation is hosting an open Zoom Event on ESD and Gender Equality on 18 May at 17:15-18:15.

Part of the Conference will be available via UNESCO YouTube. Please, visit the website for more information.
